weekly update

Couple of items - Tommy Ivey has asked for help this weekend @ Camp Thunder to start prepping for Spook - O- Ree. I cannot go, But if any adults and scouts are wanting to go, he will feed the guys Saturday and probably offer up a fun activity. Scouts and Adults that are interested please see me before the meeting. There is also an option of camping.

Council is going to try and roll out the camp card program way earlier this year. They are asking for help. If you know a business that might be interested in being on the card please contact Jason Setser @ Jason.Setser@scouting.org.

  Calendar updates/omissions - October 13 Parent/Committee meeting
                                                  November 14 Lock-in @ Hut

Sign up for Spook - O - Ree is tomorrow night. Please bring the form in. I am attaching it also. We will not be meeting on October 7 due to school being out, and Tommy has to have our accurate count to order the food before then.

Tomorrow night we will continue the bookwork portion of the Cooking Merit Badge. Its a long badge. But its also Eagle required. Most of the scouts that attended the Troop leader training weekend should have their workbooks. (and be working on them) Here is the link to that workbook. http://meritbadge.org/wiki/images/8/87/Cooking.pdf

Looks like the fish fry should be huge this weekend. We already have about 120 presold tickets. We will need a lot of help. Big thanks already to Mr Bo and Mrs Bynum and Mr Bill for their work already. We will meet at 6:30 tonight to set up dining flies and get cole slaw ready. If possible bring a large spoon if you want to cup cole slaw. Tomorrow morning we will get started at 9am. Hope to see everyone this weekend. Thanks for all your help.

I didn't think about sending it out before the summer camp break. Anyway the signup form for the July campout is clickable on the calendar. We will be going to a local lake and camping, canoeing and fishing. We will try to complete the fishing merit badge also. The worksheet for that badge is http://meritbadge.org/wiki/images/2/2e/Fishing.pdf Scouts will need that worksheet, also if the Scouts could practice those knots on the worksheet that will speed up that part of earning the badge. Scouts will need tents and standard dump camping equipment, chairs, swimtrunks, water shoes sunscreen and bug spray. They will cook as Patrols. The cost is $15 to cover food. Gas donations to the drivers are always appreciated.

Fish fry was a success!

Thanks to everyone's efforts we earned over $700 for the boys of Troop 165 with today's fish fry- woohoo!  We appreciate everyone in the community that came out and supported the scouts today.

When you see them be sure and thank the following people:  Tanya for keeping things organized and straight, Kim for the fish preparation, Bo and Bill for all the cooking, Cheryl, Chris, Mary Beth, and Susan for taking care of the front and filling in where needed, the boys that helped serve, run, and clean up, and Doug for all that he does.  Good job!
